Hilton Workers Sign Contract

A two-year effort by Hilton Glendale employees to unionize ended with the signing of a contract with management. The five-year pact provides about 180 food service, housekeeping and front office employees with provisions for safety conditions, wage increases, job security, pension plans and healthcare for employee family members, the Glendale News-Press reported. Unite Here Local 11 represents the employees. The union staged high-profile demonstrations outside the hotel beginning in 2006 especially during large social and business events, the News-Press said. Unite Here ended the boycott in February after new Hilton Glendale executives recognized the union as the representative for most of its employees, according to the News-Press.
