Companies and businesspeople who have contributed to the betterment of Pacoima were honored on April 15 during the Pacoima Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Dinner and Installation. Honored as Business of the Year was Casa de Ceramica and its owner Isidro Torres. The Businesswoman of the Year award went to Angelita Alvarez Renteria, owner of Lenchitas Restaurant and Tortilleria, who has been in business for 28 years. The Care Award was presented to Pacifica Hospital, Hillview Mental Health Center and Phoenix House of California for their work in the local health community. Financial Institution of the Year was United Commercial Bank, which has opened a new branch at 6440 Sepulveda Blvd. in Van Nuys. L.A. City Councilmember Tony Cardenas received the Distinguished Public Servant award and Billie Greer, director of the Los Angeles office of Gov. Schwarzenegger gave the keynote speech. As part of the event, this year’s chamber board of directors was installed.
