The number of bankruptcies in Ventura County for 2008 doubled from the previous year as more people and businesses ran out of hope. County residents and businesses filed 2,562 bankruptcies last year, up from 1,288 in 2007, according to data pulled for The Star by an analyst at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Los Angeles.
