New CEO at Chatsworth/Porter Ranch Chamber

Nanette Phelan, a life-long resident of Chatsworth and a business owner for the last 14 years, has taken the reins as the new CEO of the Chatsworth/Porter Ranch Chamber of Commerce. Phelan began her professional career doing accounting work for law firms, and opened her own business, A Symphony of Flowers, 14 years ago. This will not be Phelan’s first exposure to the world of non-profit management. For the last 22 years, she’s worked for the Independent Living Center of Southern California, an organization in Van Nuys that provides a wide variety of services, such as vocational services and computer training, to disabled residents while running her own business. For the last four years, she’s also sat on the board of the Chatsworth Business Improvement District, and she’s been a member of the chamber for about three years. Phelan has also worked as treasurer for the Chatsworth Chamber, which allowed her to spend more time in the office learning the ins and outs of chamber management. In addition to her local work, Phelan has had a regional impact working with the board of the United Chambers of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley. “I would really like to see the chamber be business oriented, I’m a business owner myself and I want to see businesses really survive and prosper in our area,” Phelan said. “We’re in a very eclectic area with a lot of different types of business, and I would like to try to develop some new programs and new directions. I’d like to look at maybe a workshop series that would address a variety of issues that face business owners, like workers’ compensation, injury prevention, leadership and so on.” Phelan said she’d also like to expand the chamber’s events so that more business owners can participate and has started building relationships with other chamber executives and will look for ways in which the groups could collaborate.
