NEWSMAKERS Automotive Earl Scheib Inc. President and CEO Christian K. Bement has been named chairman of the board. He replaces Stuart Buchalter who has resigned. Education The Wesley School in North Hollywood has appointed Ruth Huyler Glass as head of school. Huyler Glass succeeds founding Head of School Chuck Potts, who is retiring at the end of the school year. Engineering Dudley W. Budlong, president of Agoura Hills-based Budlong & Associates Inc., has been elected a fellow in the American Council of Engineering Companies. Entertainment Woodland Hills-based Altnet, a subsidiary of Brilliant Digital Entertainment, has announced that Ron Lachman, a co-founder of Sandpiper Networks, has joined the company as chief scientist. Sherman Oaks-based Extraordinary Events announced that Audri Beck has been named vice president of planning and development. Beck previously served on production teams for themed events and attractions for the Walt Disney Company, Universal Studios, Warner Brothers and Paramount Parks. Patrick Kennedy has been promoted to executive vice president of Sony Pictures Digital, with overall responsibility for the Digital Networks division. He had previously been senior vice president at the group, and will oversee its day-to-day operations and develop its online promotional arm, Sony Pictures Integrated Network, as well as the Screenblast and SoapCity brands. Health Care Judi Irving has been appointed president and CEO of Studio City-based HemaCare Corp. Irving previously served as president and CEO of HealthNet of Arizona and Oregon. Sherman Oaks resident Scott J. Svonkin has been elected president of the California Respiratory Care Board. Svonkin has served as a staff aide to state Assemblyman Paul Koretz and former Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley. Chatsworth-based Chad Therapeutics Inc. has named Earl L. Yager its new president. Yager has served as chief operating officer for Chad since 1983. Insurance Woodland Hills-based Scanlon, Guerra, Jacobsen Insurance Brokers has named Paul Burke executive vice president of the firm, where he has served for 15 years. Manufacturing Van Nuys-based Superior Industries International Inc. has named Steven J. Borick chairman and CEO. Borick previously served as Superior executive vice president. Non-Profits Fred Gaines was re-elected chairman of the Valley Industry & Commerce Association during the group’s 53rd annual meeting earlier this month. Pharmaceuticals Chatsworth-based North American Scientific Inc. has announced the appointment of Gary N. Wilner M.D. and Jonathan P. Gertler M.D. to its board of directors. Wilner is a senior attending physician at Evanston Hospital in Evanston, Ill. Gertler is a principal and head of health care investment banking at Adams, Harkness & Hill.
