Health Care John A. Oster-kamp, a partner at Verdugo Orthopedic Medical Group and an orthopedic surgeon at Verdugo Hills Hospital since the 1980s, has been elected chairman of the hospital’s board of directors, effective December 1. Osterkamp has been on the board since 1995, serving in such capacities as secretary and treasurer. Internet Woodland Hills-based, Youbet.com, Inc. an online wagering company and the largest provider of internet horse racing content in the United States has named Lonny T. Powell, vice-president of public affairs and general manager of the central region. Powell, who is currently president and CEO of the Association of Racing Commissioners International, begins his new assignment on February 1, 2005. Powell had been with RCI since 1999. Media Aly Drummond has been selected by Chatsworth-based AVN Publications to oversee all marketing of the AVN brand as it relates to the online community. Drummond was previously the director of marketing and director of public relations for Python Communications. In addition to representing AVN at business and public forums and on industry panels, Drummond will be responsible for sales, training and marketing tools and will also work closely with the editorial teams to expand on the focus and direction of AVN’s product line. Jeff Weiss has joined the San Fernando Valley Business Journal as staff reporter covering entertainment, manufacturing and technology. Weiss has worked for the past year as a contributing reporter for the Business Journal. He is a graduate of Occidental College in Los Angeles where he wrote a column for the Occidental Weekly. Mortgage Countrywide Commercial Real Estate Finance, Inc., the commercial mortgage arm of Countrywide Capital Markets, Inc., has announced the appointments of Jim Thompson as senior vice-president, and Joseph George as vice-president and senior underwriter. They will be located at the company’s headquarters in Calabasas. At Countrywide, Thompson will be charged with managing the legal process of the origination platform. Thompson is a 13-year capital markets and commercial real estate veteran. Most recently, he managed the legal structuring, closing and funding process for JP Morgan’s CMBS platform. George will be responsible for underwriting and structuring fixed and floating rate commercial real estate loans. Most recently, George was a vice-president for Wells Fargo Bank. Printing Valencia-headquartered, Delta Printing Solutions, has announced the appointment of David Prentice as director of business development. In his new position, Prentice reports to Ann Gayou, president of Delta Printing Solutions. Prentice will lead the development and implementation of strategic printing solutions and sales initiatives in the religious, education and trade publishing market nationally. Prior to joining Delta, Prentice worked as a client executive for Lightning Source, where he was responsible for the religious market. Restaurants Glendale-based IHOP Corp. has announced the appointment of Gilbert T. Ray to the company’s Board of Directors. Ray fills the vacancy left when IHOP’s former director, Neven C. Husley, retired in May. Ray practiced corporate law for more than 28 years and is a retired partner at O’ Melveny & Myers LLP. Technology 3D Systems Corporation, a provider of 3-D printing, prototyping and manufacturing solutions, has elected Daniel S. Van Riper a director of the company. Van Riper is also a board member of Hubbell Inc., a manufacturer of electrical and electronic products, New Brunswick Scientific Co., Inc., a manufacturer of biotechnology equipment, and DOV Pharmaceutical, Inc, a biopharmaceutical company. Also at 3D, Assad A. Ansari, D. Robert Kayser, Jr. and Stephen M. Goddard were named corporate vice-presidents. Ansari currently serves as the vice president of global engineering, Kayser serves as vice president of global sales and Goddard is 3D Systems’ vice president of global operations. Tekelec, a developer of telecommunications products for mobile and packet networks, has announced that 24-year industry veteran Scott Weidenfeller has been promoted to senior vice president of global marketing. In his new role, Weidenfeller will oversee strategic marketing, marketing communications, channel and partner management, global market development and global sales operations. TechnoConcepts, Inc. the developer of True Software Radio technology, has announced that Jae W. Jung, a former executive director of Samsung Electronics, has joined the Thousand Oaks-based company in the capacity of executive vice-president of engineering. Jung formerly founded and served as CEO of NeoPace Telecom Corp., which specialized in VolP and network processor chips.
