North Hollywood-based The SpaceConnection Inc. has been acquired by satellite operator Telesat of Ottawa, Canada for an undisclosed sum. The SpaceConnection sells satellite time to television broadcast networks and cable programmers and the acquisition will allow Telesat to grow especially as high-definition television programming becomes more common, according to Telesat President and CEO Larry Boisvert. Company officials said The SpaceConnection will be operated as an independent subsidiary of Telesat with no changes in staff. Robert M. Patterson, who founded The SpaceConnection in 1987, will remain as president and CEO, officials said. Santa Monica investment bank USBX Advisory Services represented The SpaceConnection in the deal.
