Padilla Receives 10 City Council Endorsements

City Councilman Alex Padilla received the endorsement of 10 of his colleagues on Friday in the race for a state Senate seat. The council members praised Padilla for being a leader who will serve well in Sacramento. “Alex understands the San Fernando Valley and will always stand up for us when he’s in Sacramento. I’m proud to support him,” said Councilman Greig Smith. “Alex Padilla will put public safety first and that’s a top priority for Valley residents. I’ve worked with Alex for many years and I know he’ll be a great leader for us,” Councilman Dennis Zine said. Padilla goes up against Assemblywoman Cindy Montanez in the June Democratic primary to fill the Senate seat to be vacated by Sen. Richard Alarcon, who is being termed out. On May 1, Montanez received the endorsement from the state Democratic Party. “In the Assembly I have fought for the environment, public education, health care access and working families,” Montanez said. “I am grateful to the California Democratic Party for recognizing my efforts and blessing my campaign for Senate.” City Councilwoman Jan Perry has also given her support to Montanez.
