J.D. Power’s just released survey on new-car quality turned up a surprise contender. Hyundai edged out Toyota’s former No. 3 position as a top performer with respect to new-car quality. Hyundai followed Porsche, with the No. 1 position and Lexus, with the No. 2 position, on the list, compiled annually by the Westlake Village-based J. D. Power & Associates. All of Hyundai’s models sell for under $29,000. The company ranked No. 11 on J.D. Power’s list last year.
