Despite a 29 percent decline in closings in 2008, Westlake Village-based Ryland Homes managed to move up a notch in the Top 10 Builder rankings released by Builder Online. That web-based news organization reports on the national homebuilding industry. Last year, Ryland came in at number 9, with 10,319 closings. For 2009, the company was in the number 8 position, with 7,352 closings. On average, the top 10 builders across the country posted a 37 percent decrease in the number of units closed. The largest drop, 53 percent, was seen at Lennar, who still only moved down two places, from number 2 to number 4.
