The city of Santa Clarita has entered the discussion about the future governance of several unincorporated cities west of the Golden State Freeway. The city Tuesday approved funding a study looking at the prospect of annexing unincorporated Castaic, Stevenson Ranch, Sunset Pointe, Val Verde and Westridge to Santa Clarita. The details still have to hammered out, but would likely take several months to complete. The funding matches a similar study started earlier this month on whether to incorporate the area into its own city instead of becoming part of Santa Clarita. Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich awarded a $25,000 grant to fund an analysis to determine whether the area creates enough revenue to incorporate into a new, independent city.
