Security Guards Can Unionize

As many as 10,000 Los Angeles County security guards will be allowed to organize after talks between building owners, a number of security guard companies and the powerful Service Employees International Union. The union, Building Owners and Managers Association of Greater Los Angeles and five security guard contracting firms reached an agreement to allow unionizing efforts to start at all commercial office structures larger than 75,000 square feet. The SEIU has been battling the two sides since 2000 to allow security guards to organize.
