Simi Valley is requesting $800,000 in housing and community development grant money to repave roads again this year, more than the entire amount the city will receive in the coveted federal money. The Community Development Block Grant program is expected to send the city about $730,000 for the 2009-10 year. Under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the CDBG program provides money to cities to ensure affordable housing, services for low-income residents and the creation of jobs through the expansion of businesses.
