Banks Santa Clara Valley Bank (SCVBank; OTC BB: SCVE.OB) hired Santa Clarita Valley resident, Janet Olmos as a Client Service Representative for its Valencia branch. With over 25 years banking experience, Olmos served in a client service capacity at the former Valencia Bank and Trust, Union Bank of California and, most recently, at Bank of Santa Clarita. Olmos has lived in the community since 1985. Biotech Amgen (Nasdaq: AMGN) announced the results of voting at the company’s Annual Meeting of Stockholders. Approximately 87.3 percent of outstanding shares were represented at the meeting. Director nominees include: David Baltimore, Frank J. Biondi, Jr., Francois de Carbonnel, Jerry D. Choate, Vance D. Coffman, Frederick W. Gluck, Frank C. Herringer, Gilbert S. Omenn, Judith C. Pelham, J. Paul Reason, Leonard D. Schaeffer and Kevin W. Sharer. They were each re-elected to Amgen’s Board of Directors, receiving no less than 86.7 percent of the votes cast. With the re-election of these directors, Amgen currently has 12 directors. Energy Peter Kavounas has been named Glendale’s representative on the board of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. Kavounas is assistant general manager of Glendale Water and Power Media Andrea Alegria has joined the San Fernando Valley Business Journal as a staff reporter. She will be covering healthcare, education, insurance, hospitality and tourism. She will also cover the cities of Santa Clarita and Glendale. Andrea has worked as a freelance writer for the past two years writing feature stories for a number of publications in Los Angeles. Prior to that, she worked as an L.A. City Hall reporter for HOY newspaper. Tech Aleratec Inc., developer and manufacturer of “Prosumers’ Choice” solutions for the USB, Flash, HDD, Blu-ray, DVD/CD, duplicating, and publishing markets, hired Howard Wing to lead its sales and marketing activities. Wing’s recent experience includes vice president of sales and marketing at Plextor, a supplier of CD and DVD recordable disc drives. During his tenure at Plextor, Wing was involved in initiatives to bring USB 2.0 and SATA I & II interfaces to the optical disc markets. Glendale-based Panda Security, developer of IT security products, hired Jack Hao as its new head of marketing for the US division, Panda Security USA. Panda Security USA, hired Hao from Fry’s Electronics, where he was in charge of purchasing and marketing Fry’s productivity software category, including Internet security products and system utilities. Public Service Los Angeles County Fire Chief P. Michael Freeman has been selected as one of 80 outstanding leaders throughout the world to receive the Toastmasters International Communication and Leadership Award this year. The Award is presented to a non-Toastmaster who has demonstrated outstanding communication and leadership skills in the District 52 community as defined by over 103 Toastmaster Clubs in Downtown Los Angeles, the entire San Fernando Valley, Malibu, Santa Clarita Valley, Burbank, Glendale, and Pasadena. Freeman received his award at the Toastmasters District 52 Spring Conference May 9 at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Woodland Hills. The Board of Directors of the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) elected Lloyd Greif as chairman. He succeeds Ray Holdsworth, vice chairman of AECOM, who chaired the LAEDC Board for two years. Maura O’Connor was also elected vice chair. Greif has served as a member of the LAEDC’s Board of Directors since 2000 and chair of its Finance Committee since 2003. His previous civic involvement includes serving on the board of the New Los Angeles Marketing Partnership (New LAMP) created by then-mayor Richard Riordan. Greif founded Greif & Co., a purveyor of merger & acquisition and corporate finance advisory services to middle-market growth companies, in 1992 following a successful, decade-long investment banking career as vice chairman of Sutro & Co.
