Valley Receives Quarter Million Dollar Grant

Los Angeles Valley College has been awarded a $250,000 federal grant to implement a new program to encourage Hispanic students to study environmental science. Students involved in the new program WINGS (Water Improvement by the Next Generation of Scientists) will study forest and urban watershed management and will have hands-on training in new geographic technologies. The two-year, USDA-funded grant will expand the existing Environmental Science curricula at Valley College by creating an Associate Degree and Certificate Program in Environmental Science. The grant focuses on involving Hispanic students, parents, Latino and other local communities to interact with environmental agencies to highlight careers in natural resource management and environmental science.
