State lawmakers need to make more effort to adopt a new budget, now more than four weeks behind the mandated deadline, the Valley Industry & Commerce Association said on Monday. At a meeting of the VICA board on July 29, many members expressed frustration that lawmakers could not perform the most important function of the legislature adopting a spending plan on time and within its means. “It is inexcusable for any member of the Senate or Assembly to go on recess before of balanced budget is passed,” said VICA Chairman Bob Scott. “They owe it to their constituents.” VICA has made several visits to Sacramento this year to urge lawmakers to act on a variety of issues such as tax credits for filmmakers and manufacturers and redistricting reform.
