Van Nuys-based Capstone Green Energy Corp. has sold three microturbines that will power a microgrid with integrated electric vehicle charging stations in Italy.
The project is expected to significantly reduce the site’s greenhouse gas emissions by more than 1,000 tons per year and is estimated to be commissioned next March.
The microgrid will allow for electric vehicles to be charged without using the local utility grid. It will be deployed in a combined cooling, heat and power application that utilizes low-pressure natural gas to deliver electricity and thermal energy for the end-user, an unnamed business.
IBT Connecting Energies GmbH, Capstone’s distributor in Greece and Italy, partnered with S4E System to develop the combined cooling, heat and power microgrid for the project, which is the first of its kind in Italy.
“Developing this innovative CCHP microgrid solution with integrated EV charging is a reflection of how our customers view their businesses, and they are increasingly demanding more green and sustainable solutions,” Darren Jamison, Capstone’s chief executive, said in a statement.
Shares of Capstone (CGRN) closed up 13 cents, or 2.3 percent, to $5.73 on the Nasdaq Thursday, a day when the market closed up more than 1 percent.
