Harman International has signed a 164,000-square-foot lease extension in The Mix at Harman campus at 8500 Balboa Blvd. in Northridge.
Harman, a global audio company and a subsidiary of Samsung, designs and manufactures audio products for automakers, consumers, enterprises and the live entertainment industry worldwide.
The company has called Northridge its corporate headquarters for five decades. Harman has a workforce of 300 working there. The employees engage in everything from product research and development and engineering to operations, marketing and finance supporting the company’s global strategic business units.
As part of the new lease agreement, Harman will re-do its office layout and transform a portion of the building, which includes a 15,000-square-foot customer Experience Center that was completed November 2017.Harman expects to occupy the new space by early 2022. The building sits on the 22-acre The Mix at Harman, a mixed-use campus completed two years ago which features creative office space and retail developed by owners Shubin Nadel and DRA Advisors. The lease was negotiated by Savills’ Strategic Advisor Stephen Walbridge and Corporate Managing Director Marcus Arredondo worked on behalf of Harman.“Because of the existing research and development labs and recently completed Experience Center, Harman’s space requirements are truly unique. We knew that, ideally, their goal would be to stay put, especially with such a limited amount of commercial real estate choices to accommodate the company’s unique office and industrial needs,” Walbridge said in a statement. “Harman has been a client of ours for more than 10 years, and Marcus and I were pleased to be able to negotiate satisfactory terms that allow them to remain where they are already comfortable and tailor the new planned space in such a transformative way.”
