MetroLink to Extend Saturday Trips

Metrolink has expanded its Ventura County Line Saturday service, as of Aug. 14, to include Camarillo, Oxnard and Ventura-East stations and promote business recovery in the region.“The expanded Saturday service means even more families can take safe, affordable trips to explore Ventura and Los Angeles counties and avoid bumper-to-bumper weekend freeway traffic,” Darren Kettle, executive director of Ventura County Transportation Commission and future chief executive of Metrolink due to begin on Sept. 7, said in a statement.Metrolink, which mainly serves commuters during the week, launched Ventura County Line Saturday service in May with one round trip connecting Moorpark, Simi Valley, Chatsworth, Northridge, Van Nuys, Burbank and Glendale to Union Station in downtown Los Angeles. The new extended route for Saturday service will depart the Ventura-East Station at 8:15 a.m. and arrive at Union Station at 10:07 a.m. The return trip leaves Union Station at 4:28 p.m., returning to Ventura-East at 6:16 p.m.“From our beaches to our cities, connecting all parts of Southern California is critically important to re-energizing our region’s economy post-pandemic,” Metrolink Board Member and Ventura County Transportation Commission Vice Chairman Tony Trembley said in a statement. “Not only do local businesses need the support, but I think that we’d all like to get out of the house and have fun and Metrolink is the best place to start a summer day trip or a relaxing staycation.”The additional stops are intended to develop stronger connections between public transportation and popular businesses and travel attractions, from the Camarillo Premium Outlets to Grand Central Market in downtown Los Angeles.“Providing people with affordable, comfortable and safe transportation is the surest way for our region to recover from the pandemic,” Metrolink Interim Chief Executive Arnold Hackett said in a statement. “This Metrolink service provides economic benefits for business districts along the Ventura County Line and throughout the San Fernando Valley.”Weekend day passes, valid for unlimited Metrolink rides for one adult on Saturday or Sunday, are $10. Metrolink’s Kids Ride Free on Weekends program allows as many as three children aged 17 and younger to ride for free with a paying adult.
