Osteria la Buca, one of the Southland’s most popular casual Italian joints in L.A.’s Fairfax district, has opened a Valley outlet on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks. The restaurant’s ownership announced the surprise expansion on social media late last month. The location opened exclusively for takeout and delivery sales. Outdoor dining tables are “coming soon,” according to the restaurant’s Instagram account.
The restaurant fills a vacancy left by Fusion Restaurant & Bar at 14235 Ventura Blvd. It will compete for foot traffic with Trattoria del Sole, another Italian eatery located across the street.Osteria la Buca is one of the few independent restaurants that has confirmed its viability isn’t directly threatened by the coronavirus. In June, after an employee tested positive for the virus, owner Stephen Sakulsky told Eater L.A.: “We’ve had the luxury of building a rainy day fund. … That’s why we do these things, so we can be prepared for this.”That habit of savings has enabled the company to expand where others have shrunk – on a prime stretch of a walkable Valley thoroughfare.
