Stocks were up across the board for the two-week period ended Dec. 19. The Dow Jones Industrial and the S&P 500 finished up 1.7 percent and 1.9 percent respectively. The NASDAQ rose 2.4 percent, while the Valley 50 Index split the difference with a 2 percent gain. The best local performer over the period was Ryland Group Inc., up 13.7 percent, with Diodes Inc. the second best at 11.9%. The worst local performer was THQ Inc., which filed for bankruptcy, and fell more than 71 percent.
