Paul Davis, who has made a specialty of advising clients about Medicare with his Paul Davis Insurance Services firm, has himself turned 65 and transitioned onto Medicare on Aug. 11. To celebrate, he’s asking clients to donate to one of his favorite charities, ONEgeneration, which provides care for seniors, children and at-risk youth. Naturally, he’s asking for donations in some version of 65 – either $6.50, $65 or $650. Omar Ishrak, former chief executive of Medtronic plc, has joined the board of Amgen Inc. in Thousand Oaks. “Omar is an accomplished business leader with deep experience in a fast-paced, technology-driven sector of the health care industry,” said Chief Executive Robert Bradway in a statement. Ishrak also serves as chairman at Intel Corp. and as an advisor on life science investing at Blackstone Group. … Mary Akpovi, who earlier this year retired from her accounting firm Martini Akpovi Partners in Encino, recently returned from a three-week mission trip to Uganda, where she delivered food to an orphanage, helped a school and mentored some youth. Although she’s been to Africa many times – she was born and raised in Nigeria – she said she is still struck by how open and accepting the Ugandans are. Whenever she and her team arrived at a village, “everyone stopped and welcomed us,” she said. Children sang songs of welcome, a feast was put on, and the community danced into the evening.
