VALLEY NEWSMAKERS

James Hillman has been named managing director – portfolio management for BNY Mellon Wealth Management’s Southern California region. He will be responsible for overseeing Southern California’s client service teams in Los Angeles and Newport Beach, and will help set wealth management strategies and manage investment portfolios for high net worth clients. He will oversee 40 employees and report directly to David Emmes II, regional president for Southern California. The territory spans from San Diego to the San Fernando Valley and Santa Barbara. Hillman previously worked for 10 years in progressively responsible positions in the company’s Boston office. Prior to joining Mellon, he led TD Banknorth’s trust and investment businesses in several New England markets. What are you hoping to accomplish in the Los Angeles region? Having experience with the company in Boston, I’m excited about the opportunity of being able to serve areas such as the San Fernando Valley. This is one of the fastest growing regions in the country. As our staff and clients grow, we will bring a higher level of consistency across the region. On the private wealth side I work with successful and wealthy individuals, such as business owners and people looking to consolidate wealth. We have a number of services and product offerings. Is BNY Mellon Wealth Management planning on expanding through acquisition in the region? We are always focused on growing the business and looking for potential opportunities. We don’t have any definitive plans now, but this is a very strategic growth area for us. Our coverage extends south to San Diego and north to Santa Barbara, and we have a specific focus and interest in the San Fernando Valley. Currently there are two professionals, a wealth director and client services person in the Valley. —Eric Billingsley
