Marathon This Weekend to Close Valley Streets

Expect significant traffic delays in the eastern portion of the San Fernando Valley on Sunday as the 22nd Los Angeles Marathon kicks off near Universal Studios Hollywood. The 26.2-mile race starts at 8:15 a.m. from Lankershim and Cahuenga boulevards near Universal City and wends through the Cahuenga Pass to Exposition Park and downtown L.A. The race will result in street closures around Universal City and Studio City, primarily Cahuenga Boulevard from Barham Boulevard through the Cahuenga Pass to Highland Boulevard and Ventura Boulevard east from Vineland Avenue. On- and off-ramps to the Hollywood (101) Freeway and bus lines will also be affected. Streets and freeway access in the Valley segment of the race should reopen by 10 a.m. Public transit schedules are expected to return to normal by early afternoon Sunday. It is the first time the marathon course has included portions of the Valley. Previously, the race started and ended in downtown. The race is expected draw 20,000 race participants and as many as 1 million viewers.
