Tutor Perini to Build Typhoon-Proof Housing in Guam

A subsidiary of Tutor Perini Corp. in Sylmar has won a contract to replace housing units at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam with new buildings capable of withstanding the island’s frequent typhoons, the company announced Monday. The $178 million contract to Black Construction Corp. will deliver duplexes featuring reinforced concrete foundations, concrete floors, concrete walls and concrete-sloped roofs. The design allows the buildings to withstand winds up to 170 miles per hour. Work on the project is expected to begin before the end of the year, with substantial completion by June 2022. Shares of Tutor Perini (TPC) closed Monday up 72 cents, or 5.5 percent, to $13.78 on the New York Stock Exchange.
