Moorpark College
Sokenu is president of Moorpark College. The community college opened in 1967 with 2,500 students and 50 employees; for the 2021-22 academic year, it has more than 400 faculty and staff serving over 14,000 students. The school was ranked a Champion of Higher Education for the sixth straight year by Campaign for College Opportunity. Sokenu joined Moorpark College 15 years ago; he rose through the ranks, becoming dean of student learning and then vice president of academic affairs. In 2016, he served a term as president of the California Community College Association of Occupational Education. Sokenu is a poet and essayist who has been published in several literary reviews and journals.
