Los Angeles City Council
Los Angeles City Council President Martinez is the first Latina to be council president in the city’s 172-year history. The daughter of working-class immigrants, Martinez brings a families-first agenda and a focus on women’s rights advocacy to her efforts on behalf of the 6th Council District and the city of Los Angeles. Martinez created the largest renters’ relief program in the country, helped raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour in Los Angeles, created a task force to help women caught in the nightmare of human trafficking, and championed paid parental leave for city workers and Angelenos citywide.
