Congressman Cárdenas has served more than 20 years in public office. First elected to the State Assembly in 1996, followed by the Los Angeles City Council in 2003, he is now in his fifth term as representative of California’s 29th District. He was the first Latino elected to represent the San Fernando Valley in Congress. He serves on the Committee on Energy and Commerce and is a member of congressional caucuses on Armenian Issues, LGBT equality and veterans’ jobs, among others.
