Environmental Report Ready for Burbank Airport

The Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority on Friday released a draft environmental impact report on its proposed terminal building at Burbank Bob Hope Airport. The release of the report begins a 45-day public review and comment period that goes until June 13. The authority will host three public meetings to give more information on the report and for the public to comment on it. “The release of the DEIR marks a major milestone for this airport,” said Authority Commission President Frank Quintero in a prepared statement. “We look forward to hearing from the community and area stakeholders after they take the time to review this very important document.” The airport authority looks to build the 14-gate replacement terminal on 49 acres north of the existing terminal, which was built in 1930. The draft report evaluates the impacts the new terminal would have on such factors as air, noise and traffic as required by the California Environmental Quality Act In addition to the 49-acre site, the study looked at the impacts if the new terminal were built on 43 acres on the airport’s southwest quadrant that is now used for general aviation hangars, air freight facilities, an air cargo building and Federal Aviation Administration maintenance and communication facilities. Any terminal plan would have to be approved by Burbank voters, who in 2000 passed Measure B, an initiative that requires public approval of expansion or relocation of the airport’s terminal. The public meetings take place May 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Burbank Community Services Building, 150 N. Third St.; June 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Buena Vista Library, 300 N. Buena Vista St., Burbank; and June 6 at 9 a.m., at the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority meeting, at the Bob Hope Airport terminal Skyroom, 2627 Hollywood Way, Burbank. Copies of the complete report are available for public viewing at Burbank, Glendale, and Pasadena City Halls; the Buena Vista, Central, and Northwest Libraries in Burbank; the Glendale Central Library; the Pasadena Public Library; Valley Plaza Library in North Hollywood; and the Burbank Bob Hope Airport Authority offices.
