AdRev Acquires Santa Monica Digital Music Firm

YouTube music administrative service AdRev announced on Monday that it has acquired DashGo Inc., a digital-music distribution and marketing firm for record labels, podcasters and recording artists. Terms of the deal between AdRev, a unit of Audio Micro Inc., in Sherman Oaks, and DashGo, in Santa Monica, were not disclosed. No layoffs are expected. DashGo has deals with more than 10,000 artists and a catalog topping 200,000 tracks distributed through music retailers such as iTunes, Spotify, YouTube Music Key and Pandora. It was founded in 2004 by Ben Patterson, who will continue as chief executive of DashGo, which will retain its brand name. AdRev monetizes YouTube content through its proprietary software that detects the illegal use of copyrighted music and inserts advertising so the owners and artists receive compensation. “(DashGo) has an impressive catalog and a deep emphasis on marketing and personal service, which differentiate it from other distributors and drives label and artist revenue growth,” said Audio Micro Chief Executive Ryan Born, in a prepared statement. AudioMicro was listed in November at the top of the San Fernando Valley Business Journal’s annual list of Fastest Growing Private Companies, with 936 percent revenue growth between 2011 and 2013, when revenue hit $5.4 million. The company also has a separate music-licensing business and a photo library.
