Aerial Film Companies Create Partnership

Van Nuys film industry companies XM2 and Pursuit Aviation, with aerial cinematographer Stephen Oh at the helm, on Tuesday announced a collaboration to come up with new ways to get a filmmaker’s perfect shot. Called XM2 Pursuit, the team will work on utilizing “in-aircraft camera systems” for filmmakers to use during production via unmanned helicopters, drones and even iconic warbirds. In addition to movies, the XM2 Pursuit looks to service the aerospace industry, television and commercials, the companies said in a statement. “We are looking forward to expanding our global growth potential by leveraging our shared team’s experience and expertise across a variety of aerial platforms,” added Oh, chief executive of XM2. This isn’t the first time XM2 and Pursuit have come together to deliver aerial scenes — the Van Nuys businesses also created Whiskey Wheels last year, which developed a remote operating system for cinematographers to translate their skillset to the sky. Whiskey’s system allows for longer film time while airborne, hauling heavy filmstock and equipment with its remote operated helicopter. That’s all without compromising a steady, cinematic shot, the company said.
