AMC Theaters Moving Into Fallbrook Location

While Laemmle Theaters Inc. is still moving out of its Fallbrook Avenue location at the end of the month, AMC Theaters will be taking its place with only a few days of dark screens, the company said Friday. AMC, which operates 28 other locations in the Los Angeles area, will perform some renovations to the theaters after Laemmle shows its last films Feb. 27. Included in the upgrades are stadium seating and expanded concessions. “We already have a strong presence in the area, but we’re excited at the opportunity to not only add to the AMC family in the area, but to turn this theatre into one of the nicest in the country,” said Mark McDonald, executive vice-president of development at AMC, in a statement. Laemmle, a Los Angeles firm that operates eight theaters in the county, announced in January that it will be vacating the property after 11 years because it could not reach a long-term lease agreement with the property owners, Chicago-headquartered General Growth Properties Inc. AMC will take over the lease March 1 and expects to begin showing movies a few days later, although renovations will continue until later in the year. Terms of the lease were not disclosed.
