Briefs: IPC, United Online

IPC Healthcare Inc. has entered into a strategic alliance with naviHealth Inc. to coordinate care at hospitals with the goal of lowering costs for Medicare. The North Hollywood company provides doctors to hospitals and nursing homes, while Navihealth in Nashville, Tenn. manages patient cases after they leave the hospital. The companies will work under Medicare’s Bundled Payments for Care Improvement Initiative, which seeks to develop new models for coordinated care delivery. “As healthcare reform continues to evolve in the U.S., there is a greater emphasis on integrated care models that can improve outcomes while effectively managing costs,” said IPC Chief Executive Dr. Adam Singer, in a statement. IPC shares closed up 26 cents, or about half a percent, to $49.97 on the Nasdaq. Kenneth Denman has been elected to the board of directors at United Online Inc., a Woodland Hills Internet service provider and social media site operator. Denman replaces Dennis Holt who has served on the board since 2001. Denman’s election occurred during the annual meeting on Friday. Denman currently serves as chief executive of Emotient Inc., a facial expression analysis software company in San Diego. He has also had management positions with software developer Openwave Systems Inc., in Redwood City, and Wi-Fi connection network iPass Inc., in Redwood Shores. “Ken brings extensive executive experience in the technology and telecom sectors to the United Online board,” Chief Executive Francis Lobo said in a prepared statement. Shares closed down 43 cents, or about 2.5 percent, to $16.28 on the Nasdaq.
