Briefs: Under Armour, IPC

Gravity Defyer Corp. has settled its trademark infringement suit against Under Armour Inc. for use of the name “G Defy.” The Pacoima company makes athletic shoes that sell under the brands Gravity Defyer and G-Defy. Under Armour sells shoes that feature Micro G foam and with packaging that includes the words G Defy, according to the lawsuit’s federal complaint filed in March 2013. The suit alleged the Baltimore, Md. sports apparel and accessories maker was trading on Gravity Defyer’s goodwill and that its packaging would likely cause confusion among consumers. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed in an Oct. 7 filing in Los Angeles federal court. The judge dismissed the jury and plans to hold a dismissal hearing Nov. 24. IPC The Hospitalist Co. Inc. announced on Friday that it has hired Kelli Newman as its general counsel and corporate secretary. The North Hollywood company supplies doctors to hospitals and nursing homes. Newman previously served as general counsel at Reachout Healthcare America in Phoenix. Prior to that, she was a partner with the firm Michael Best & Friedrich LLP in Chicago. “Kelli’s broad leadership experience, including legal, government affairs, compliance and human resources, is an excellent complement to our outstanding legal team,” said IPC Chief Executive Dr. Adam Singer in a statement.
