Calabasas Firm Gets Airbus Work

National Technical Systems Inc. has won a contract to design and build test equipment for components used on the Airbus A350 passenger jet. The financial terms of the deal between National Technical in Calabasas and Rockwell Collins Inc. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which makes the components to be tested, were not disclosed. National Technical will fabricate and build specialized equipment and a custom test stand at its Albuquerque, N.M., facility for use of the components located in the tail of the A350 to balance the aircraft. Designing and building the A350 test equipment required National Technical to expand its Albuquerque facility and outfit it with the resources to serve aerospace customers, said Chief Executive William McGinnis. “We see this as a very important market for us that will only get larger and more important in the near future,” McGinnis said in a prepared statement. National Technical makes test equipment for electronic components used in the telecommunications, automotive and energy industries, as well as for airlines and some others. Shares closed up 36 cents, or more than 2 percent, to $16 on the Nasdaq.
