Cherokee to Distribute Alessandra Line

Apparel brand licensing company Cherokee Inc. will market a new line of clothing under the label of former Victoria’s Secret model Alesandra Ambrosio, the Van Nuys company announced Tuesday. The “ále by Alessandra” line will feature jackets, dresses, blouses, leggings and denim in bright colors and prints. The collection will be available in specialty and department stores starting next year. The Brazilian model runs the line through her Silver Sunrise company. The announcement comes one day after Cherokee announced it has repurchased its school uniform line from Strategic Partners Inc. of Chatsworth. The reacquisition will bolster the business the company has with Target Corp. of Minneapolis, which has agreed on multi-year licensing agreements to sell the Cherokee branded uniforms in its stores. Cherokee Chief Executive Henry Stupp said he is focused on expanding the overall product offerings of the company, also noting the fall acquisition of Liz Lange, a maternity brand offered at Target. “The Cherokee Group has had a tremendous year, both domestically and abroad,” he said in a statement. Shares of Cherokee closed up 23 cents, or 1.7 percent, to $14.13 in trading on the Nasdaq.
