Cherokee Ramps Up International Expansion

Cherokee Inc. announced on Monday new strategic alliances in five countries as it continues the international expansion of its brands. The Sherman Oaks apparel licensor said it has reached agreements with Haven Licensing in Australia and New Zealand, Redibra in Brazil, Segal Licensing in Canada and Global Pursuit in China. The overseas licensing companies will seek regional and territory partners to sell the company’s apparel. Its brands include its core Cherokee line, its newly acquired Tony Hawk line, Carole Little, Liz Lange and Sideout. “This group will provide us with the necessary ongoing, on-the-ground support to ensure long-term success,” said Cherokee Chief Executive Henry Stupp in a statement. Earlier this month, Cherokee announced a long-term partnership with Copyright Promotions Licensing Group to represent the company in European markets. The company reported better-than-expected fiscal first quarter earnings last week, prompting a surge in its stock price. Shares on Monday closed up 41 cents, or nearly 3 percent, to $15.43 on the Nasdaq.
