Conejo Valley Firms Get Energy Grants

Two Conejo Valley companies received grants totaling more than $180,000 from the California Energy Commission to assist in bringing alternative energy products to market. Electric engine developer GreenTech Motors Corp., in Westlake Village, received $93,600 and Shape Change Technologies, in Thousand Oaks, received $94.855, the commission announced Dec. 12. GreenTech and Shape Change were among a dozen companies receiving a total of $1.1 million in Energy Innovations Small Grant funding from the commission. GreenTech will use its money for advancing the production of electric motor technology. Last year, the company signed a deal that licensed electric motor technology from Boeing Co. in Chicago. Shape Change’s grant money will go toward developing and demonstrating a one-kilowatt heat engine using a proprietary nickel titanium foam-based design that generates power from low-grade thermal energy such as hot water. The Energy Innovations Small Grant Program provides funding to small businesses, non-profit organizations, individuals and academic institutions to conduct research that establishes the feasibility of innovative energy concepts.
