Corporate Briefs: Cherokee, Interlink

Cherokee Inc. reported fiscal third quarter earnings on Thursday that narrowly missed analysts’ estimates. The Van Nuys apparel and accessories licensing company posted net income of $1.6 million (19 cents a share) in the quarter ended Nov. 2, compared to $2.1 million (25 cents) for the same quarter a year earlier. Revenue of $6.7 million stayed flat compared to last year’s figure. The Wall Street consensus was for earnings of 21 cents, according to an analyst polled by Thomson Financial Network. The company said its Liz Lange and Cherokee Uniforms brands performed strongly, while its Zellers Canada, the retail arm of Toronto-based Hudson’s Bay Co., recorded a loss. Cherokee shares lost 23 cents, or almost 1.7 percent, to close at $13.75 on the Nasdaq. Interlink Electronics Inc. has added to its executive management with a new hire and a promotion, the company announced Thursday. Albert Lu has been named chief technology officer and Jeff Baker was promoted to the newly created position of chief scientific officer at the Camarillo touch sensor company. They will report to Interlink President and Chief Operating Officer Howard Goldberg. Interlink has reached a point where a chief technology officer and chief scientific officer are needed for product research and development and scientific initiatives, Goldberg said. “Interlink Electronics is proud to have both Dr. Albert Lu and Dr. Jeff Baker as members of its executive team as they both are very accomplished and respected technology leaders,” Goldberg said in a prepared statement. Lu, who starts with Interlink in February and will be based in Singapore, will oversee the internal R&D team, develop strategic technology and product roadmaps, and identify R&D partnerships. He is a graduate of the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology in the United Kingdom. Baker joined Interlink in 2000 and has served as vice president of research and development and vice president of product development. He also contributed to the company’s re-structuring initiative in 2011.
