Disney Donates to Typhoon Relief

Walt Disney Co. announced Tuesday that it will donate $500,000 to humanitarian efforts in the Philippines, following Typhoon Haiyan last week. The Burbank media and entertainment company will donate the money to Save the Children and the American Red Cross. In addition, the company will match donations from employees to relief organizations. The typhoon struck the island of Leyte on Friday. The U.N. estimates that more than 11 million people have been impacted by the storm and that more than 600,000 are homeless. Philippine President Benigno Aquino III estimates the death toll to be about 2,000 people. “Our hearts go out to the millions of people in the Philippines affected by this tragedy,” said Disney Chairman and Chief Executive Robert A. Iger, in a prepared statement. “We hope this donation and our employee matching gift contributions will help families begin to rebuild their lives in the wake of this devastation.”
