DTS Acquires Software Developer

Audio technology company DTS Inc. is acquiring Manzanita Systems, a Poway software developer for digital television, video-on-demand and other platforms. Manzanita, founded in 1996, offers software to perform audio and video compression for broadcasters, post-production houses, manufacturers of digital video technologies, and military and defense contractors. DTS, in Calabasas, sells high-definition audio software and hardware used in multiple platforms, including smart phones, digital media players, game consoles, home theaters and personal computers. Geir Skaaden, senior vice president of digital content and media solutions at DTS, said the acquisition will improve the company’s product offerings for television, mobile devices and PC streaming and on-demand content. “We are committed to growing our business in the network-connected media ecosystem and believe that the acquisition of Manzanita Systems will help DTS further strengthen its position in the space,” Skaaden said in a statement. Terms of the deal announced Thursday were not disclosed. DTS shares closed down 10 cents, or a fraction of a percent, to $23.73 on the Nasdaq.
