Ember Technologies Raises $13 Million in Latest Funding Round

Temperature control technology developer Ember Technologies has received $13 million in a Series C funding round, the company announced. The Westlake Village startup said it will use the money for research, development and sales and marketing programs for new products to come out in the next six to nine months. This latest funding brings the total capital Ember has received so far to $21 million. Investors include executives from StubHub and eBay, musical performer Demi Lovato and NFL players Ndamukong Suh and Prince Amukamara. The company’s lead product is the Ember Mug that allows someone using the item to control the temperature of the liquid inside. Within the mug’s interior is a solid phase change material that turns to liquid at a given temperature and cools down the coffee or tea in the mug. A microprocessor-controlled heating system powered by a small battery keeps the drink at the desired temperature. The Ember Mug became commercially available in November and is sold through the company’s website, Amazon.com and select Starbucks locations. “I founded Ember because I believe in the transformative power of temperature control, and saw the potential for innovation in this category,” Chief Executive Clay Alexander said in a prepared statement. “Our Series C funding will provide the capital needed to further develop revolutionary products that will improve the way the world eats and drinks.”
