Exelis Wins $38 Million Radar Contract

Exelis Inc. has received a $38 million contract from the Pentagon to supply radar modification kits for the U.S. Navy. The work will be performed at the Van Nuys facility of Exelis and completed by September 2018, the Defense Department said Wednesday in its daily digest of major weapons contracts. The modification kits are for the AN/SPS-48 radar system used as the primary air search sensor for anti-aircraft warships. Options on the contract, if exercised, would bring its value to $113 million. Exelis, in McLean, Va., is an aerospace, defense, information and services company. It was acquired early this year by Harris Corp., in Melbourne, Fla., a manufacturer of wireless equipment, electronic systems, tactical radios and terrestrial and space borne antennas for the defense and commercial markets.
