Flad Leaving as Burbank City Manager

Mike Flad is leaving as city manager of Burbank after three and a half years in that position. Flad has tentatively accepted the city manager role for the City of South Gate. The South Gate City Council will vote Sept. 25 to approve Flad’s hiring. Flad, a Burbank native, has worked for the city for more than two decades as head of the park, recreation and community services department, assistant city manager, and, since January 2009, the city manager. Leaving Burbank for South Gate was bittersweet considering how long he has served the city, Flad said. “I’m not just leaving a job, I’m leaving my hometown and saying goodbye to over 1,400 city employees, of whom I could not be more proud,” Flad said in a prepared statement. “It has been an honor and a privilege to work with so many outstanding people in an effort to make Burbank such a special place.” Mark R.
