IPC Buys South Texas Doctors Group

IPC The Hospitalist Co. Inc. announced Monday it has acquired three affiliated doctor groups in South Texas. The North Hollywood company, which owns doctor groups that attend inpatients and those recently released from hospitals, said it has acquired THG The Hospitalist Group LP, Hospitalist Management Group LLC, and MD@Home Ltd., collectively known as THG in Mission, Texas. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. The companies provide doctors to hospitals and post-acute care facilities in the Rio Grande Valley cities of McAllen, Edinberg and Mission. Jeffrey Taylor, president of IPC, said the acquisition will expand the company’s presence in the region, which it entered about a year ago with the acquisition of another doctors group. “Shortly after commencing business in the market, we realized there was an opportunity to further improve operating efficiencies and consistency of care in the market by combining forces with THG,” Taylor said in a statement. Shares of IPC closed Monday down 3 cents, or less than 1 percent, to $50.91 in trading on the Nasdaq.
