Kate Mantilini Closes

The Woodland Hills location of the upscale Kate Mantilini restaurant is scheduled to close Tuesday, according to media reports. The San Fernando Valley eatery on Owensmouth Avenue in Warner Center is the last of the chain’s locations. The Beverly Hills restaurant closed in June after 27 years in business when a new lease could not be negotiated with the landlord. Difficulty in reaching new terms with Woodland Hills landlord Douglas Emmett Inc. was at the center of the second location having to close also, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. The Daily News quoted restaurant manager Omar Romero that Chief Executive Adam Lewis had tried to negotiate a less expensive lease with Douglas Emmett as sales at the restaurant had declined. The restaurant opened in 2003 and was operated by brothers Adam and David Lewis. Their parents, Harry, an actor, and Marilyn Lewis, started Kate Mantilini as an addition to their Hamburger Hamlet chain, founded in 1950. The family sold Hamburger Hamlet in the 1980s.
