Los Angeles Fire Department issued a citywide Red Flag Alert for wildfires on Tuesday, the first time in more than two years that officials have taken this step. The fire department cited “extremely hot and dry conditions” as reasons for the alert. Residents are cautioned to call 911 immediately if they see smoke and to obey the no parking signs on streets in fire hazard zones. The no parking restrictions will remain in effect for at least 24 hours, or until 8 a.m. Wednesday. “The LAFD will re-evaluate weather conditions during the day Tuesday to determine if the Red Flag Alert will be extended,” the department said in a statement. In September, the La Tuna Fire burned nearly 7,200 acres in the mountains above Sunland and Burbank in the east San Fernando Valley.
