Online advertising company ReachLocal Inc. announced on Thursday the opening of an office in Vienna. Austria will be the seventh European country where the Woodland Hills company operates. Others include Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. The company said it chose to expand into Austria in part because the nation has a high Internet penetration rate, including more than $560 million spent on online advertising in 2011. “We are continuing to grow our European footprint, and help more local businesses throughout Europe acquire, manage and retain customers online,” said John Mazur, chief executive of ReachLocal Europe, in a prepared statement. ReachLocal operates in 14 countries worldwide, including in Asia, South America and Australia. Shares closed up 42 cents, or 3 percent, to $14.58 on the Nasdaq.
