NoHo Boutique Gets Zoning OK

A proposed boutique hotel near the NoHo Arts District in North Hollywood has been given final discretionary approval. The 43-unit lodging at Tujunga Avenue and Weddington Street by IKON Hospitality Group of North Hollywood received a conditional use permit on Thursday from a city zoning administrator, according to project architect Nikhil Kamat, principal at Irvine design firm nKlosures Inc. “It’s all straight forward from now. We are compiling the engineers and we are going to submit drawings to the city by the end of June,” Kamat said The 19,000-square-foot lot was previously occupied by Maximilian’s Restaurant, a small Austro-Hungarian spot that closed last year, a few months before IKON bought the land. Kamat expects the $5 million project will break ground near the end of the year. Room rates are expected to range from $175 to $225. This would be the first boutique for IKON, which owns a string of smaller hotels, including a Best Western on Lankershim Boulevard and a Super 8 on Laurel Canyon Boulevard. In addition, the group operates hotels in the Santa Clarita Valley, Monterey Park, the South Bay and other areas of Southern California.
