National Technical Systems Inc. announced Monday it will provide testing for devices connected to Pacific Gas & Electric SmartMeters. The Calabasas company will perform the work at its advanced technology division in Culver City. National Technical will confirm the home area network devices can communicate with the PG&E SmartMeter. The devices show in real time how much electricity is being used in a home or business. Being picked to perform this validation work strengthens National Technical’s position in testing consumer Smart Energy and Smart Grid devices, said Chief Technology Officer Osman Sakr. “With the further expansion of the Smart Grid market, it’s important to verify that devices function with the specific equipment they are going to be used with — in this case, PG and E’s SmartMeters and the associated back-end equipment,” Sakr said in a prepared statement.
